Budget
Last week’s budget saw the team ‘scoping’ LIVE from our offices. This was an interactive session, allowing anyone in the world to ask us questions or make comments as the budget was being presented by means of an ‘app’ called Periscope. This is now the third time we have scoped the budget – with Steve commenting on the speech as it unfolds – and its relevance to us all. While this was happening, Brad was on Twitter relaying the details too! If you missed the LIVE event, you can find it on our YouTube channel – the link can be found via this site. Steve has also written a budget review – this can be found below.
George’s Balancing Act
Introduction Another political budget, with one eye on the EU referendum, and another on the looming battle to replace David Cameron as Tory party leader. George Osborne has to avoid alienating the general public, AND keep as many Tory MPs on his side, so they vote for him when David Cameron’s long announced retirement as PM takes effect. So what has George pulled out of his magician’s hat? Overview The budget has been delivered against a backdrop of slowing growth, and concerns about the global economy. There has been a significant amount of prior publicity, so we knew some of what was coming. It’s been described as a “budget for the next generation”, which basically means the Chancellor is appealing to the under 40s. The following report highlights some changes that you need to factor in to your forward planning. Changes affecting individuals Stamp Duty Land Tax We were promised…
The Chancellor’s backing off
We cannot claim credit for this, but it seems the Chancellor is postponing plans to raid our pensions and cut the incentives to save for our retirement. Apparently, it’s more important to win an upcoming referendum than clear the budget deficit, according to most commentators!!
Auto Enrolment
We have assisted a client to implement a full Auto Enrolment which has allowed them to offload all of the workload from their desk. If you are not sure about your responsibilities please contact the office – who will be happy to assist.
Keeping clients on the straight and narrow
Steve had a couple of meetings last week, answering client concerns on payroll, the CIS and other accounting matters. If you need some reassurance, our fixed fee arrangements allow you unlimited advice and support.
Keeping clients efficient
Our pre year end meetings are proving particularly cost effective at the moment. Steve ran through the changes to SME taxation with two clients last week, saving them £1,000s in tax by showing them ways to reorganise their family finances.
Accurate statement of account
By helping a client to prepare an accurate statement of account for one of their customers, Andy helped them to prove that they were owed in excess of £2,000. Now to help them get paid!
New clients
Welcome to Mark and Phil, our newest clients, (well, until Andy took on two more later in the week!)
Can you afford to book a summer holiday?
One of our newest clients, has received a £5,094 VAT reclaim for his first VAT return. If you were to receive a cheque from HMRC for that amount, how would you spend it?! Come in and see us, and give us the opportunity to do the same for you!
