Autumn Statement 2016
Philip Hammond has delivered his first Autumn Statement. From 2018 onwards, he will use this will be replaced by the budget speech. The reason is to give us all more time to prepare for the tax changes that will come into effect in the April. This is a good idea, and one which the tax profession has been requesting for a long time. The budget speech will be renamed the Spring Statement, so we will still have two set piece announcements that have the potential to change the tax landscape. So what did he announce today? It was fairly dull. In truth, he had little room to manoeuvre. Economic growth and forecasts Issue: Brexit has made the outlook more uncertain, and this is reflected in the growth forecasts issued by the OBR. Growth will hover around 2% per annum for the foreseeable future. Action: Business owners must implement their own…
Good work from the team – Making Lives Better for our clients!
Steve David met with Steve a couple of weeks ago to discuss the closure of his unwanted company. Steve took him through the process, and developed a plan that will save him between £3k and £5K of professional fees. John arrived for a meeting completely confused about a complicated tax position he entered a few years ago. Steve took on the task of getting some clarity over his options, which meant he left the office knowing it would all be sorted out. Dan met with Steve to finalise his business’s 5-year development plan. Covering things like sales growth, market share and exchange rate exposure, halfway through the meeting Dan said “this is exactly why I employed you guys. To help me drive the business forward”. Following a meeting with 3 of the four directors of a company in the digital sector, Steve signposted some additional sales training for the MD.…

Congratulations to Andy and Orlagh
We are delighted to announce the birth of our first ‘Numbers’ baby – although we can take absolutely NO credit!! Orlagh and Andy Sullivan had their first baby – Finn William – on Thursday 13th October at 23.08, weighing in at 8lb 3oz. He is absolutely beautiful, and we all send our congratulations to Andy and Orlagh!
Plymouth 10K 2016
Last Sunday, four of the team plus two family members ran the Plymouth 10K for our chosen charity – the Plymouth and District Leukaemia Fund. We are so proud of all who ran – all but one had never done anything like this before, but were committed to raising as much money for the charity as they could. THANK YOU ALL! We have raised in excess of £600, but we will let you know the final figures as soon as we know!
Numbers wins prestigious national award!
Yesterday we were thrilled to win the ‘AVN Excellence in Making a Difference’ award at a national conference for accountants in Nottingham. This award recognised the steps we are always taking to make a real difference in the lives of our clients. A winner because of the many stories of how Numbers impacts the lives of their clients for the better, Steve Carey says of one particular client: “Naturally the client was delighted at the outcome of our involvement. Initially he was quite down, but now he is ‘over the moon’. No longer burdened, he has a new lease of life and is enjoying what he does”. Numbers (UK) Ltd is featured in Steve Pipe’s new bestseller ‘The World’s Most Inspiring Accountants, and is committed to ‘Making Lives Better’. If you think we can help you, please get in touch!
Family tree
When you next visit our offices, check out our new ‘Family Tree’ wall on the way to the meeting room. It’s a gallery, but not a ‘Rogue’s Gallery’ – since we like to think that at Numbers (UK) Ltd, our authenticity is just one of many things that sets us apart. Let us know what you think, and tell us who’s the cutest! (clue: she’s white and fluffy!)
Steps towards your personal goals
Steve met with a couple of builder clients last week, and gave them an idea that could save thousands of pounds in tax over the next ten years. On Friday, we learnt that the first steps had been taken, and £50,000 of tax free cash had been realised. This gives their strategic development plan a major step forward. Another client came in for their pre-year end meeting, and Steve showed them a way in which £125,000 could be extracted from their family company with a low tax take. Again, their family goals have moved a giant step closer. At the other end of the scale, Steve found a creative way to allow a new client to pay our fees, so she can get her accounts up to date, registered with HMRC, and start to make her business work for her, rather than the other way round. Making Lives Better, on…
